Why this site?

I want as many people as possible to know about my venture and to take an interest in it. The reason for this is simple: I am raising money for charity and the more people are involved the more money I will raise.

I think it's important to divulge as much juicy information about my venture as possible so that there is something for everybody. This site is structured to contain quite a diverse set of details. Clearly, not everyone will find it all fascinating, but I hope there is something here for everyone.

In particular I'm focussing on providing lots of detail about my thought processes, planning and preparation as well as the voyage itself so that others who are considering a similar venture may benefit. There are a number of blogs on the web from people who have sailed around Britain and I have found many of them very useful to review. But, in my view, they all lack a certain measure of completeness and I hope to fill the gap here. That said, I very much enjoyed and appreciated Graeme's site on his 2008 trip which is amply documented and I will study many of his passage plans carefully.

Also, I really need to keep my family and friends fully appraised of my situation and this site should tell them all they need to know.

So this is my way of communicating to anyone and everyone who's interested in my venture. As things progress I will be blogging regularly as well as posting up photos and videos. I've also got a "Where am I?" page that updates my position in real time and gives details like how fast I'm going and in which direction I am headed.

I hope you enjoy it.
