Rainy, windy Sunday

I'm sitting here at home in front of the fire and it is miserable outside. It's raining. It's windy. It's cold.

The last place I want to be is on the open sea. Yet I know that this is exactly where I'll be even on days like this. I must prepare myself to be strong and resilient both mentally and physically. I know what it's like to be out at sea in bad weather. It's not nice. Especially on your own. You worry if it will get worse. And you have decisions to make. Do you press on? Do you turn tail and go back to where you came from or do you make a beeline for the nearest safe haven. It's never obvious as these alternatives seem always to be as bad as each other in one way or another. If you're on your own then it's really tough. You've got no one to discuss the options with. And you can't call a friend - only you know the situation. Even the coast guard won't doll out advice. You're the skipper not them.

So, looking out of the window now makes me nervous. But then there are going to be times of glory. So stop worrying and get on with it!
